FORLORN - [adjective] left alone and unhappy

Every day I walk through the park I see the same old man sitting on a bench. He looks sad and forlorn.

He ended up poor and forlorn in a prison. But I believe he deserved it for all the things he'd done and all the shame he'd brought to his family.
